One of the few things I ever expected when I entered this realm, was the support I’ve found from friends and my new social media family. My participation has been minimal of late and I’ve felt like I was stuck in a rut….then I found today’s mail. Not only did I get an autographed copy of Liliana Rhodes new book (which was ever so sweet), but tucked behind all the rest of the mail was a small card. It was face down and as I read the return address, realized it was from one of my aunts. Naturally I expected it to be for my soon to be high-school-graduate son. Turning it over to place it where he would find it, I discovered it was addressed to ME! A little confused as I opened it and began to read it, tears quickly stung my eyes.
In this small little card, with so few words, is a ton of emotions. One of my mother’s sisters, who has overcome so many obstacles in her own life, reached out the old-fashioned way and has inspired me more than words can say. She let me know in her card that she liked my book, that she enjoyed it, thought it was a “delightful read”, and “admired my gift of writing”.
Not totally in the electronic age, yet, the majority of my family has not read my book. I’d become slightly jaded to the fact that they probably never would, and cared little. I could see in their mind that it was probably just another silly little venture that the red-head cooked up.
But this…this one small snail mail card…has made my day, and know this…..it does make you cry.
Affirmation…. who knew?
